Chunk is having the same issue - he is on NVI limited ingredient lamb. I spoke with my vet about it and she said to give him two tablespoons of pumpkin per meal and we will see where this goes. I was thinking about switching to salmon (more for his coat) and am nervous about the quick switch over too. Seems like this could be a common thing with NVI!

@BabyDuke, if he's doing well other than hard poop you can try adding some pumpkin or some can food. Ruckus couldn't poo at all. He ended up in the vet twice, the second time he was there for 5days. At this point we decided to switch foods. We never had to add wet food before NVI and his poo was fine. There are many who are doing great on NVI, this was just my experience. As for the clay, if you look it up it has many great benefits. It is a binding, absorbing agent though which would make sense as to why the poo is so hard. Ruckus's was described as cement by our vet.

I don't switch proteins - I think that's so much more about how people feel about variety of food than dogs - and when I did, the dogs didn't do as well on the other formulas as the Beef and Lamb.

That said, I now have them on the NVI LID Lamb and they are both doing good on it...had to make a switch because Truman was getting itchy for some reason and it's helped.

I had the same issue last week. KMarino sugguested giving him pumpkin and it worked like a charm! At first I didn't think it worked, but the next day he was a poop machine....even in the house. And they were good solid poops too. I wasn't made that he had an accident in the house b/c he never does, I was just so happy that he was pooping. Oh what us bulldog parents take joy in

I use nvi chicken and haven't had any issues yet. I was told about the rotation of food as well with nvi. Not worried about that at all as it makes sense after i researched it just as long as she does well. So far the chicken is all i have tried with her. She's 10 wks old.

Maximus is on NVI LID Lamb (dry) and on NVI Raw Frozen Diet Bison. So far he has not had any side effects from this. He really enjoys the Raw Frozen Diet and enjoys his dry NVI as well.
