Bogart — aka Bogie — hopes to find the perfect home in which he can live out his golden years. Could you be his forever home?
At 13 ½ years old and 50 lbs, Bogie knows who he is and isn’t terribly inclined to change for anyone; an admirable — and very typical bulldog — quality! He would benefit from a firm hand for the first few days in his forever home to keep his stubborn bully side in check till he figures out the rules. After that — he’s an easy boy to have around, and will make you laugh every day.
His favorite activity is ball time — fetch, tug of war, you name it, he’s game! For a senior he has a lot of pep in his step! He never fails to impress his foster family with his zest for playtime. Bogie’s spurts of energy are followed by some epic couch naps, though, once left alone — sounds like the perfect life to us! While he is deaf and has very limited vision, it really doesn’t limit him. He knows the hand signal for “sit” and will bark if he has to go out. He is left alone for 5-6 hour stretches and never has an accident. Bogie does not like being crated or gated off from his beloved couch, so his foster family leaves him free to lounge on the couch during the day. A mid-day check-in would be ideal if he’s left alone during the day, and he would also do well with a petsitter stopping in.Bogie is perfectly fine with older kids; because of his desire to play “his way”, younger children would not be ideal. He’s also a tad ornery in his “old age” (sssh, don’t tell him we told you that!) so he’s not big on being bothered during the times when he’d like to be left alone and some younger children may not understand that. Because he loves playtime, he can be a bit protective of his toys around other dogs; with humans, he simply wants them to engage him in play! He has no issues with people being near his food or treats, and enjoys the company while he eats.

Ideally, Bogie should be an only dog in his next home — he’s never lived with another dog, and prefers they just come in to visit without staying too long. If he happened to encounter another dog on his epic walk around the yard, he would likely just ignore them. He would likely do fine in a home with cats, if the cats are inclined to leave him alone. Like many bulldogs, Bogie is fed a poultry-free diet and is prone to the occasional hotspot — nothing out of the ordinary. He also gets eye ointment twice a day without much fuss — he happily takes bribes. His blood work had a few slight irregularities that will require monitoring from his vet.

While he has energy to spare, that doesn’t mean he’s prone to wander off — he doesn’t seem inclined to go anywhere, nor does he possess the speed to get very far! He loves simply laying in the grass and sunbathing (when not too hot, of course). Thus, a fenced-in yard is not required. Bogie doesn’t do stairs, so his new home must have limited stairs. He does manage the few stairs his foster home set up for him to reach the couch, his favorite spot in the home! Bogie just wants a family with which to play and a couch on which to nap — pretty simple! He may be set in his ways but he is a bulldog after all.

He is currently being fostered in New England.
