Millie is an approximately 5 year old English bulldog who is spayed and up-to-date on all shots currently living with her foster mother in Boston, MA.
Millie's former family surrendered her to S.N.O.R.T. due to her mounting health concerns (they had her for just shy of a year). Prior to the year spent in a home setting, Millie's history is not clear, but she has had several litters in the past and could have been part of a puppy mill or breeding situation.
It was discovered in foster care that Millie has kidney and skin issues that will require ongoing attention and care. Due to inadequate medical care in the past and chronic urinary tract infections, Millie's kidneys are quite worn out and will require quarterly ultrasounds for the next year or so to monitor her renal progress. The issues cannot be reversed, but are manageable, and the ultrasounds just serve to ensure that Millie's kidneys do not drastically change over the coming year.
Like many English Bulldogs, Millie has very sensitive skin (environmental and food allergies), and as a result is on a specific grain-free diet along with daily allergy medication and regular medicated baths.
For the right family, preferably with a history of owning English Bulldogs, Millie's health concerns should be manageable.
All medical issues aside, Millie is a happy, gentle and social girl. She is currently living - and thriving - in a busy downtown Boston neighborhood and would be best suited in a home/neighborhood where she could explore on foot with her owners every day. She has adjusted to urban life very well, and would do well in an apartment setting with elevators or very limited stairs. City noises, congestion and occasional surprises don't bother Millie in the least. She actually enjoys the city pace and cannot wait to get out and about every day.
Millie is wonderful with people, and would fit in well as part of a family with children 10+ years old. Millie is trusting of both men and women and likes to be part of the family in all ways. She will be the best shadow anyone could ask for.
She is fully housebroken and loves long leisurely leash walks. Due to Millie's lack of exercise in the past, it will be important for Millie to keep walking and engaged to keep her weight in check.
Millie would be best suited as an "only canine" child, but in the right situation, and given some time and space, she does get along with larger breed dogs. She is comfortable spending time alone, is not destructive in any way, and would be fine alone during the day while owners are away or at work.
