    That Day

    I close my eyes
    As I remember that day
    So much has happened
    So much left to say.

    I thought I was helping
    When I answered that call
    Never truly expecting
    How hard I would fall.

    The moment I saw you
    My heart skipped a beat
    "You're Gorgeous! Sweet Boy!
    Wow! Look at your feet!"

    Your eyes - so soulful
    Your heart so pure
    You are full of love
    This one thing I'm sure.

    You mean no harm
    You are just misunderstood
    Never having a home,
    on the brink of boyhood.

    You're skittish, you won't eat
    You're a scared little boy
    You perk up! You light up!
    "Is this a treasured toy?"

    "A laser? You want this?
    Can you give me a kiss?"
    Excitement! So Joyous!
    You're in heavenly bliss!

    You jump and you play
    Like the puppy you are.
    Never once was I afraid
    that you would leave me a scar.

    With your olive nose
    And your alluring green eyes.
    The day finally came
    When we said our goodbyes.

    Your look - Sweet Aldo
    That you gave me that day,
    It haunts me. It kills me.
    I didn't mean to betray!

    It was a home! Your home!
    I had not a clue.
    I wouldn't have sent you
    If only I knew!

    I drop to my knees
    With tears in my eyes.
    I beg your forgiveness
    For these half truths and half lies.

    There are stories and more stories
    Of what happened that day.
    Half truths and untruths
    With a single soul left to pay.

    So precious. So stunning.
    15 months and a day
    When God called you up
    Heaven's beautiful stairway.

    RIP sweet baby boy
