  • Rescue Stories: Meet Keiffer, the Bulldog Who Found a Home

Keiffer Beefer aka Keef Beef aka Keiffer

Keiffer went into Southern California Bulldog Rescue with about 70% of his hair on his torso missing, paws so swollen they looked like they were going to burst, and limited sight in one eye due to a cherry eye that had been exposed for so long it literally turned black.

    Keiffer's missing fur

Tami (Keiffer's foster mommy) tried her best to get his hair to grow back, but soon realized there was just too much damage done for too long, and Keiffer was going to be mostly bald. She said "I was so afraid that he wasn't going to get a fair shot at adoption because of his looks, and that someone would miss out on such a wonderful dog and companion".

Keiffer waiting for his forever home

Then the call came from a woman who said she didn't care what he looked like, she wanted to meet him. Kristin went to Keiffer's foster families home, sat on the floor, and was immediately in love. "Most people were afraid to touch Keiffer, afraid they might hurt him and afraid of what he would feel like. But not Kristin. She loved him and touched him like he was the the most beautiful dog on earth, and to her, he truly is" said Tami. Keiffer now lives the life of luxury in Santa Monica, CA. He spends his days hanging out with his bully sister, Kensi, and going on vacations to Palm Springs.

Living the life a Bulldog should

That is what rescue is all about, taking a dog with so much to give, and finding them a human who has a heart just as huge as theirs.

    Here is Keiffer enjoying life!!!!

  • I Rescued A Human Today

    by Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

    I rescued a human today.
