Rocky and Bear
My name is Jani and I currently live in beautiful Harpers Ferry, WV. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have one 8 year old son and 2 fur babies. I love to read, swim, travel, and watch movies. I also volunteer at our local no kill animal shelter often and currently looking for other rescue places to spend time in. I generally work from home. I am a licensed Real Estate Agent and I have a strong Human Resources and Accounting background. Recently I have decided to go back to school for most likely Nursing.
I have had cats and dogs throughout my life, all mixed breed beagles, labs, chihuaha, pit bull, weiner dog, and much more. When I was younger I liked cats. My first cat for myself was a mix and looked exactly like Gizmo, so I named him that. Then when I was in high school I had a charcoal colored cat I named Ghost, he thought he was a dog. After I lost them I was so attached and just didn't want the misery of an inevitable loss.
My husband is a dog person. He does not like to own cats. I figured we would never have a pet. Our local Baltimore tv station did a spot on tv on Fridays at noon to adopt animals. One day my husband came to me and said "Can we get a Woody?" I was like "What????" Then he showed me this adorable lab puppy they were calling Woody on TV, and I couldn't say no. We contacted the shelter and went down there immediately. We waited for him to arrive from the studio and took him home with us. I named him Woodrow Wilson. A few months later we bought our first home and then adopted our beagle mix, Rockefellar. So we had our Woody and Rocky. Sadly after 13 ½ wonderful years with our Woody, we had to say goodbye.
My family was completely distraught over the loss of our lab, so I said NO MORE DOGS EVER. We lost him in November of 2009. Life moved along then one March 2010 day my son had checked out a book on English Bulldogs from school and said he wanted one. I kept saying no way. I knew nothing of the breed, didn't want another dog, and honestly, if I was going to choose one, it wouldn't be an English Bulldog. Well my son persisted, and my husband decided in April that we should look into another dog, much to my resistance.
I made a list of 4 breeds to research, among them the English Bulldog (my son's pick) the Boston Terrier (my husband's pick) and the Bull Terrier (my pick), I added the French Bulldog for good measure. I narrowed the list down quickly to the two bulldog breeds. Couldn't find and English breeder in my area, so I searched and searched and found a reputable one 2 hours away. The breeder agreed to meet me halfway (I would have gone all the way) and we met two adorable bullies, Mugsy and Slug. I was IN LOVE, I couldn't believe I had resisted so long, literally my heart melted in a matter of seconds. We went home and I did more research, I knew it was the EBs for us. We decided and the next day we picked up Slug, who is now Bear.
A few weeks after having him home, Bear drank some water and immediately passed out, fell over. I was panicking, it was very late to call my breeder so I did a google search and found a breeder on the West Coast hoping they would help. Not only did she help me, she directed me to EBN and I've never looked back. If anything I am more obsessed than ever. I will never say no more dogs for us, but I will say only English Bulldogs!!
