He now spends his days with his mom and talking with his friends on facebook. He is an adorable bulldog who makes us smile everyday with his blurbs. Champ would very much like to tell you his story!
Hi I'm Champ! My mom calls me Champsky. I wuz pulled frum a local high-kill shelter. I wuz found wanderin' da streets wif severe puncture wounds through my neck, lacerations covering my thin lil body, and all four of my canine teeth had been filed down. Dey later found i had BB pellets in my tummy. Everybudy finks dat i had been used as bait for dog fighting. My foster mommie flushed my wounds out twice a day and fed me lots of good quality food. i had several ups and downs throughout my recovery including surgery to repair my spleen and a battle wif da tick disease ehrlichia, but i am finally happy and healthy now! During my recovery my foster mommie asked me if i wunted to stay wif her furever. She'z da Vice President of Adopt-A-Bull Rescue so i get to have lots of foster brudders and sissers now and i go to lots of rescue events to promote responsible pet ownership. i have achieved my AKC Canine Good Citizenship, i'z a registered therapy dog, and a member of Dog Scouts of America! i am so grateful for a second chance in life! i'z makin up for missed time now! i hope everybully finds a local shelter or rescue to help out; whether it be wif a donation, volunteering, or fostering. not all bullies are as fortunate as da ones we call our own.
Peace, lub, and rescue.
-Champ
~Meet Bandit~ Do you have a rescue story to tell? Contact the webmaster at webmaster@englishbulldognews.com Please visit our other pages from the "Then & Now" series. Bandit was rescued by Adopt-A-Bull rescue from a local high-kill shelter in Florida. He needed surgery to fix his many leg problems, but he was too emanciated and weak to undergo anesthesia. He also had a severly swollen jaw from abscessed teeth; a result of either being neglected and starved long enough that the bones in his jaw fused together- or from being traumatically injured. He was in rescue for a year. He will now tell you his story:
Hi I'm Bandit! I wuz rescued frum a local high-kill shelter in Miami. I wuz in pretty ruff shape...I needed surgery to fix my leg, but da doc said i wuz waaay to thin and weak to go under "da knife." i also cudn't hardly open my mouth.... my jaw wuz severely swollen frum abscessed teeth...da doc said it wuz a result of either being neglected and starved long enough dat da bones in my jaw fused together! or frum being traumatically injured (either physically abused or hit by a car, etc). But after 6 months of bein hand fed, lubbed on, and cared for, i wuz finally healthy enuff to have my neuter and leg surgeries! "Only" a year after i came to rescue, i finally wuz able to find my furever family. i just lub my lil human puppies and all der friends who lub to pway wif me! life is good now! -lub, Bandit
When Leon arrived in rescue, they honestly didn't think he would make it. All of their efforts went into taking care of him and cleaning up after him. As he became slightly more stable, he underwent surgery. The photo shows stitches around his eyes, he had double entropian done, 13 teeth extracted and 3/4 of an inch of his soft palate removed. The rollover picture is of that recovery time, getting used to walking around again. Initially he couldn't walk. His back legs would not support him. If he tried to get up to walk he would run into things and fall down again. ''On April 25, 2008 I came in da rescue. I wus unable to walk, unable to contrwol my bladder or bowels an i wuz highly overmedicated on da seizure medications. I wuz surrwender'd cuz my owner wuz goin to da prison and da people takin' care of me had no ideas wut dey wuz doin'. I came in on 15, 15mg pills of phenobarbitol and 6cc of potassium bromide every day. I wuz on 225 mg of phenobarbitol. No wonders I cuddn't walk! I den came to my new mommy Michelle n my new daddy Stoney (from Illinois English Bulldog Rescue), dey worked wif a bully specialist, and dey took me off all meds, whilez I had to endure seizure afta seizure. Now I am only on 45mg of phenobarbitol in da mornin' an 45mg in da evenin' an 2cc of potassium bromide one time a day. I'z am now 8, an I has been seizure free fur 20 months! I has normal liver n kidney function an is now momma n daddas big baby.'' ---wub, Leon Further proof that rescue organizations need to exist not just to take in dogs, but to also educate. Michelle Adams is thrilled with all of the bullys she's been able to help with IEBR. ~Meet Leon~
Sugar was found by her new mom Deborah on Pet Finder’s Pug Lover’s Rescue. Deborah filled out an application and sent it via e-mail and was contacted in 10 mins about adopting her. Sugar is deaf, and she was still sick when she arrived into Deborah's care. Deborah wasn’t sure about Sugar and how it would all turn out, because she was requiring a huge amount of care. She was going to the bathroom in the house and was sick a lot. She almost gave up on her. They decided to give her more time, and finally they found out she had worms, and that’s why she was so sick. Once they figured that out and fixed that problem-- she changed into a different dog. Sugar has done one level of Obedience training. Sugar knows the hand signal for come, sit, and wait. If its dark outside and they need to call her in, they use the porch light to get her attention to tell her it is time to come inside. Sugar would love to tell you her story!
Hellow, dey call me Sugar…..I am a deaf bulldog who was used fur bweeding. Don't know why dey bwed me, cuz wif my bein' deaf n all, I prob'ly passed my conditions down to my wittle offsprings. But dey was greedy peoples who did not care 'bout me, only cared about me makin' dem puppies so dey could sell 'em......
