~Meet Molly Now~

Look at my coat, I barely shed at all anymore!

What are tear stains? I dunno- cuz I don't got 'em!

Molly has been fed Iams all of her life.  Notice the yeast on her paws, bad tear stains, bad yeast infection under her rope wrinkle, she even had yeast on her tummy!  Although we never had any health issues with her, one day she broke out into an allergic reaction to something.  This allergy turned into a severe skin infection.  The vet prescribed allergy medication and antibiotics, along with medicated shampoos.

After 3 weeks, she improved, but she was still not back to her usual dog, and we were becoming very concerned with how long she had been on these medications. If we did not give her an allergy pill, she would start itching again profusely!  After reading what other owners were saying about dog food here in our fourms, we decided to make the switch. We were very dissapointed to find out the we were feeding our dogs a "1 star" food.

We chose Avoderm Ovenbaked Lamb & Rice, and sprinkled with bottled "Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil".  Within 1 day I had her off the allergy medication.  Within 3 days she stopped itching.  Within a week her hair stared to grow back.  Within 2 weeks her tear stains and paw stains were gone.  Within a month she was a whole new dog!

I am very pleased with the results of Avoderm and Salmon Oil. The first thing you notice is when you open the bag of dog food, it smells wonderful.  Not like grease, like Iams did.  It is also light tan in color.  No added ingredients that contain dyes.  I believe this is why Molly's tear stains have completely dissapeared.  I hope sharing Molly's story with you will help you make the choice to swich to at least a 3 star rated dog food.

When I compared the prices vs. the amount to feed each day, it ended up costing very little extra.  Less waste to clean up daily certainly helps too!

~Meet Samson Then~

Samson has severe allergies.  His face was always red and sore, and his paws were red and full of yeast from his constant licking.  Sometimes he even bled in between his toes.
His Mommy Tessa tried several foods and put Samson on the proper medications for his allergies.  It was not diet alone that saved Samson from a miserable life of allergies, but it was a huge part of the recovery process for this poor boy.

Tessa discovered that Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Salmon was the right food for Samson.  He gets 2 cups a day, the evening cup is mixed with salmon oil and a heaping spoon of Wellness canned 95% Salmon food.  He also gets atarx twice a day, only uses hypo-allergic soap/fragrance free shampoo, and ONLY Natural Balance or salmon/sweet potato treats.  Every once in a while Samson still has an allergy attack, but with the right meds, dog food, and human companion he now lives a wonderful healthy life. Prior to feeding Natural Balance, Samson was eating Iams and Nutro.

Wook at my pwetty pawz n face!

"Horse says goodbye to his nickname"

For the first 4 years of Horse's life, I fed him beneful, dave's brand (multiple varieties), then eagle pack lamb and rice. He had earned the nickname "stinkhead". Horse's face always smelled really awful, it was red all the time. His eyes were always bloodshot and irritated, with constant eye boogers. Horse had what we called "chacne"-chin acne. He was always licking and chewing on his feet. Horse's body was always itchy too. You couldn't pet him without him wanting a full-body itching! Horse was also having bowel movements about 5 times a day.

I had always heard that English Bulldogs had a lot of allergies, and there wasn't much you could do about it.I never thought he could be allergic to his dog food, nor did the vet suggest it (we've since switched vets). As for the "stinkhead", I just thought that's how he was, a stinky dog.

In April, Horse developed diarrhea. After a few days, I took a stool sample to the vet which turned out negative. So, I fed him only boiled hamburg and rice until his stools firmed up. I began to read everything I could on English Bulldog News about what could be wrong with Horse. I came upon a post from Lindathedogsmaid about dog food. So, after e-mailing her, and getting her (well-researched) opinion I decided to switch Horse to Nature's Logic Lamb.

Within days there was a noticeable difference in Horse. My "stinkhead" was not as stinky, less itchy, red, and had fewer stools. After a month he looked like a different dog. Everyone who saw him asked why he was so white and clean looking! Horse has been eating Nature's Logic for almost 4 months now (first lamb, then beef, now back to lamb because the beef seemed to bring back the "old" Horse a little bit), and I can't believe what feeding him a quality dog food has done for him. Horse has big brown bully eyes now, and they are no longer bloodshot unless he's worked up. His face is white, "chacne" is gone, and I only have to wipe his morning boogers out of his eyes. You can pet him now without having to itch him. Horse now only poops twice a day, and they're nice, firm, easy to pick up ones! He is a much happier bully now, and no longer has the nickname "stinkhead".

Thank you English Bulldog News, lindathedogsmaid, and all of our helpful members for all of your answers and information. We are so happy we stumbled upon the site! Horse is bully-proof of what feeding your dog quality food can do.

bully hugs and kisses, Horse.Lauren+Braeden

Note to future dog food changers:

1.)  Do not switch your food over too quickly.  Do it slowly over a course of at least 4 days MINIMUM- and the longer, the better.

2.)  Results may vary.  It may take several tries of different brands before you find the perfect food for your dog.  This will also depend on your dog, what they are allergic to, and what other conditions your baby may have.  Be patient in finding the right food.
